Historical Novel Society North American Conference

In a few short weeks, History Through Fiction will be attending the Historical Novel Society North American Conference in San Antonio. The bi-annual conference, hosted by the Historical Novel Society, attracts historical novelists, publishers, editors, and enthusiasts from across the world. Beginning with a virtual component on June 5, the in-person conference, held at the Marriott Rivercenter, takes place June 8 - 10. The conference program includes a variety of events, activities, panels, networking opportunities, and more. This will be the first time History Through Fiction as an organization will be represented at the conference.

Geared mostly toward writers of historical fiction, the conference will include all kinds of useful information and resources for authors. This includes the pitch and query-letter critique sessions with agents and editors, special-themed conversation rooms, and the Blue Pencil Café that features one-on-one mentoring between established, working authors and new, up-and-coming authors. Of course, there will also be dozens of highly-informative panels. History Through Fiction is proud to be hosting a panel titled Writing Real History in a Fictional Narrative. Taking place on Saturday, June 10 at 1:30 pm in Salon G, the panel will be moderated by HTF founder Colin Mustful and includes HTF authors Alina Adams, F.M. Deemyad, and Patricia Bernstein, along with HFT Short Story Acquisitions Editor Robin Henry.

History Through Fiction will also be taking part in the Readers Festival. Hosted by San Antonio bookstore The Twig Book Shop, and taking place on Saturday, June 10, from 5pm - 7pm, the Readers Festival includes book signings by 109 historical novelists including award-winning and bestselling authors Lisa Wingate, Jamie Ford, James Scott Bell, Libbie Grant, Margaret George, and Sara Penner. HTF authors Alina Adams, F.M. Deemyad, Patricia Bernstein, and Colin Mustful will also be signing copies of their books at the festival.

Celebrating 20 years and 10 conferences, History Through Fiction is thrilled to be a part of the 2023 Historical Novel Society North American Conference. If you’re attending the conference, please reach to us to say hello, ask us about our books, services, and submission guidelines, or just to chat about everything historical fiction!
