Bonus Episode - Linda Ulleseit

In this special bonus episode of History Through Fiction: The Podcast, host Colin Mustful chats with author Linda Ulleseit about her recently released novel, The River Remembers. During the conversation, Linda talks about how, as a 5th generation Californian, she became interested in the history of Fort Snelling in Minnesota Territory. She also talks about the challenges of writing outside of her own cultural viewpoint, the similarities and differences between the struggles faced by the women in her novel, and her transition from schoolteacher to award-winning novelist. About the Author

Linda Ulleseit was born and raised in Saratoga, California. She is a retired elementary school teacher with an MFA in writing from Lindenwood University and is a founding member of Paper Lantern Writers. In August 2020, Ulleseit’s novel, THE ALOHA SPIRIT, was published by She Writes Press. The story is inspired by her husband’s grandmother, who grew up in Hawaii.

Her newest novel, THE RIVER REMEMBERS, also from She Writes Press, features an ancestor of Linda’s born at Fort Snelling, Minnesota, in 1835.

Colin Mustful

Colin Mustful is the founder and editor of History Through Fiction, an independent press dedicated to publishing historical narratives rooted in factual events and compelling characters. A celebrated author and historian whose novel “Reclaiming Mni Sota” recently won the Midwest Book Award for Literary/Contemporary/Historical Fiction, Mustful has penned five historical novels that delve into the complex eras of settler-colonialism and Native American displacement. Combining his interests in history and writing, Mustful holds a Master of Arts in history and a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing. Residing in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he enjoys running, playing soccer, and believes deeply in the power of understanding history to shape a just and sustainable future.
