Medical History Takes Center Stage in History Through Fiction’s Next Novel

History Through Fiction, an independent press located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is excited to announce the signing of author Ron Blumenfeld, M.D.

A native of New York, Ron Blumenfeld attended the Bronx High School of Science and the City College of New York before receiving his MD degree from the State University of New York Downstate College of Medicine. After completing his pediatrics residency at the University of Arizona, he and his family settled in Connecticut, but Tucson remains their second home. Blumenfeld practiced pediatrics for twenty years while gradually transitioning to administrative positions. Upon retirement, he became a columnist for his town’s newspaper, the Fairfield Citizen, a pleasure he surrendered to concentrate on his debut novel, The King’s Anatomist. Blumenfeld’s love of books springs from his childhood years spent in an antiquarian book store in Manhattan, where his mother was the only employee. He enjoys a variety of outdoor sports and hiking and currently resides in Connecticut with his wife Selina.

Set within a magnificent period of cultural rebirth and scientific discovery, The King’s Anatomist is a fascinating medical history blended eloquently with meaningful relationships and a riveting mystery. In 1565, news arrives in Brussels that renowned Renaissance anatomist Andreas Vesalius has died on the Greek island of Zante. His lifelong friend, the reclusive mathematician Jan Van den Bossche, makes a memory-filled journey to his grave, laden with feelings for the widow of Vesalius. Finally on Zante, Jan makes a shocking discovery. On his return to Brussels Jan reckons with Andreas’ fateful choice and his feelings for the widow, Anne. Told through letters, memories, and one epic journey, the story carries readers through a revolutionary chapter in medical history while engaging them in a deeply personal story of growing older and confronting relationships. A fictional masterpiece with real and relevant historical sources, The King’s Anatomist is as enlightening as it is enjoyable.

Blumenfeld is the third author to be signed by History Through Fiction, an independent press founded by author and historian Colin Mustful. Established on the idea that fiction can have footnotes, History Through Fiction publishes novels that combine elements of fiction and nonfiction in order to tell stories that are both entertaining and educational. By publishing well-written, compelling historical novels, books by History Through Fiction bring history to life while also acting as important historical resources.

The King’s Anatomist is expected for release in fall, 2021. For more information, or to schedule an interview, please contact the editor at: editor@historythroughfiction.com.
