Bestselling Author Alina Adams Returns with a Riveting Multi-Generational Tale

Mpls, MN – History Through Fiction is proud to announce the signing of Alina Adams to a traditional book publishing contract for her forthcoming novel Go On Pretending. Set for release May 1, 2025, Go On Pretending follows three generations of women who struggle for personal and professional success in 1950s segregated America, the collapsing USSR, and revolutionary Rojava.

Alina Adams is the NYT-bestselling author of soap-opera tie-ins, figure-skating mysteries, romance, and historical novels. Born in Odessa, USSR, Adams immigrated to the United States at age seven and learned to speak English by watching American Soap Operas. After receiving her B.A. and M.A. in broadcast communications at San Francisco State University, Adams worked in television as a writer and researcher. Years later she penned the As The World Turns book tie-in, Oakdale Confidential, which became a New York Times bestseller. Her first historical novel, The Nesting Dolls, is a Soviet-Jewish historical novel published by HarperCollins in July 2020. My Mother’s Secret, published by History Through Fiction in November 2022, provides readers a rare glimpse into the world's first Jewish Autonomous Region of Birobidzhan while exploring universal themes of identity, love, loss, war, and parenthood. Adams lives in New York City with her husband and their three children.

A family saga following three generations of women, Go On Pretending begins with Rose Janowitz who leads the transition of radio soap-operas to television in the 1950s, hiding a secret about her radical past and a forbidden romance with the African-American leading man of The Guiding Light’s popular spinoff. Meanwhile, in the 1980s, Rose’s daughter Emma Kagan leaves her privileged life in the USSR to navigate political complexities amidst the collapse of the Soviet Union which sends her scrambling for survival. In 2012, Libby, Rose's granddaughter, embarks on a dangerous quest for utopia in war-torn Syria, uncovering long-buried family secrets. Together in Rojava, the three women struggle to find something to believe in and a place to belong.

Adams becomes the first author signed to multiple contracts by History Through Fiction, an independent publisher of historical fiction launched in 2019.
